それは危険な動画を投稿してバズらせるという動画シェア文化と関連しているという。

New York City Mayor Eric Adams called on social media companies to ban videos of the dangerous trend after a 14-year-old boy died and another was critically injured while subway surfing in Brooklyn in late June.
"Social media must be socially responsible. Subway Surfing kills. We need everyone to be a part of ending this dangerous threat," Adams tweeted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter *2.
In response to the boy's death, TikTok issued a statement expressing condolences for the family, noting that the trend predates social media and that 40,000 "safety professionals" work to remove harmful content, Gothamist reported*3.

さて、地下鉄に跳び乗るってどうやるんだろうと思ったのだけど、写真を見ていると、紐育の地下鉄は地上を走行する部分もあって、電車が地上に出てきたときを狙って、屋根に跳び乗るようだ。そういえば、紐育の地下鉄はパンタグラフではなく東京の銀座線や丸の内線のようにサード・レイル*4から電気を供給しているのだった。そういえば、昔『サブウェイ・パニック』という映画でサード・レイルに接触して即時に感電死するシーンがあったな。それはともかく動画配信目当てということだと、かなり前に超高層ビルのてっぺんに上るrooftoppingという行為に言及したことがあったのだけど*5、最近はどうなっているのだろうか。また、日本の所謂バカッター界隈では不潔系ばかり目立って、「地下鉄サーフィン」のような身体を張った危険系は目立たないように思う。別に煽っているわけではないけれど。
