世界的なパスタ･メーカーであるBarilla*1のGuido Barilla会長は９月25日に、伊太利のラヂオ番組で、Barillaの広告で使用するのは「古典的家族（classic family）」のみであり「ゲイ家族」を使うつもりはないと発言し、さらに文句がある奴は他社のパスタを食えとまで言った。それに対して、人権団体Equality Italia*2のAurelio Mancuso氏が、上等だ、食うなというならボイコットしてやろうじゃないかと反論し、数時間のうちにboicotta-barillaというハッシュタグのついた呟きが溢れ出ることとなった。
