久しぶりにZEPの「天国への階段」の歌詞を読んだり、口遊んだりしたのだけど、「天国への階段」で最初に覚えた英語の表現というのもけっこうあるなと思った。例えば、ifと同じ意味のin caseという言い方；

あなたの頭は戸惑ったり躊躇ったりしているばかりで、

そして、ジミー・ペイジのギター・ソロが始まって、怒涛の後半部に突入するわけだけど、誰もがここで想起するのは、ボブ・ディランの「風に吹かれて」*2だろうね。

piperは前半部最後の

という部分に先ず登場するのだけど、piperが登場して、「夜が明ける（dawn）」という動詞が使われて、ピンク・フロイドが仄めかされているんじゃないかと今思った*3。
