STAP騒動はまだ終わっていなかった。小保方晴子を筆頭著者として2011年３月にTissue Engineering: Part A誌に発表された*2”The Potential of Stem Cells in Adult Tissues Representative of the Three Germ Layers”という論文が撤回された。この論文は小保方晴子の師匠に中るチャールズ・ヴァカンティがシニア・オーサーになっている*3。今回の「撤回」はヴァカンティの申し入れによる。ハーヴァードの内部調査を納得させることができず、小保方晴子よりもSTAP細胞にのめり込んでいた（ようにみえる）ヴァカンティも遂に降参したか。
