What a surprise not to be able to see your feet with your peripheral vision. It created an unbalanced feel. I walked a few unsteady steps. The women could barely contain themselves. In fact, I realized, all peripheral vision was wiped out. I looked in a mirror. In an instant I had been erased, like a ghost. It was a most unsettling feeling, to see nothing but this shroud with a dark shadow where my eyes used to be. At the same time, to my astonishment, I sensed the power of concealment, the power of only revealing what is absolutely necessary(p.371).
