現地時間８月13日午後、紐育クィーンズのAl-Furqan Jame Masjidモスクの近くで、イマームのMaulama Akonjee師と助手の男性が何者かに射殺された。午後の祈りを終えた後だった。犯人は現時点では不明。Maulama Akonjee師はバングラデシュ生まれで、2014年に紐育に移住した。ムスリム・コミュニティの内外で穏健な人格者として知られていたという。
