歴史学者のエリック・ホブズボームが10月１日に亡くなっていたことを今頃になって知る。
さてホブズボームの仕事でいちばん印象に残っているのは『伝統の発明（The Invention of Tradition）』*1なのだが、上に挙げた２つの記事でも何故か言及されておらず、却って興味深い。また『ガーディアン』の記事では、彼の共産党だけでなく労働党に対する影響についてもけっこう詳しく言及されている。
