脚ではなく頭 - Living, Loving, Thinking, Again

一通りメンバーによる朗読が終わると、ホストから「ゲストの方からもぜひ何か一つ」と請われる。
日本語のままでかまわない、と言われるが、件の商社マンは芭蕉の句すら憶えていない。
ええいままよと、マイクに向かって「九九」を暗唱した。
すると、「なんと素晴らしいリズムだ！」と会場から万雷の拍手が……
……うろ憶えの知識で申し訳ありませんが、確か天声人語か春秋か、どっちかで読んだエピソードです。
あと、詩ではありませんが、芥川龍之介は作家になる資質として
・作文が下手なこと
・足が速いこと
・数学が得意なこと
を挙げています。

「九九」というと脚韻（rhyme）ではなく頭韻（alliteration）になりますよね。頭韻は英語の詩ではよく用いられるものの、仏蘭西語では殆ど使われることがないようです。日本の詩歌では韻を踏まないとよく言われていますが、川本茂雄先生によれば、和歌では意識されずに頭韻がよく用いられているとのこと（『ことばとイメージ』*1）。
