ローンチ！

ちょっと気になっている片仮名言葉がある。「ローンチ」。英語での綴りはlaunchで、どの辞書にも発音に注意しろと付記されている。字面を見ればラウンチといいたくなるだろうが、そこをぐっと我慢しろ。意味としては、開始するとか着手するといった感じ。まあ、別に「ローンチ」なんて気張った言葉じゃなくて、始めるでいいじゃん、と思う。
最近だと、例えば、

２つのペンタゴン

残念ながら、身の回りには、軽井沢町のバス転落事故*1は〈悪徳ペンタゴン〉の遠隔操作によって惹き起こされたと主張する愉快な人はいないのだった。そして、これを読んでいる方々にも、多分。

中国上海に、あの米国のペンタゴンそっくりの建物があり、しかも本物よりも大きい（面積が広い）。一応ショッピング・モールなのだが、テナントが殆ど入っておらず、「中国最大の空虚な建物」と呼ばれている。
それで、中国国内のサイトを検索してみたら、上海市には「ペンタゴン」が２つも存在する。ひとつは浦東の恵南鎮で、上のFoxNewsの記事はこの浦東の「ペンタゴン」をネタにしたもの。正式には「上海五角世貿商城」。既に2010年に完成していて、完成前から一部では話題になっていたという*2。さらに、嘉定区の（小籠包の発祥の地である）南翔にもあるのだった*3。
悪徳ペンタゴンと空虚なペンタゴン、どちらが凄いのだろうか。ところで、元祖ペンタゴンだけど、「ワシントン」ではなく「ヴァージニア州」にある。これは、入試には出ないかもしれないけど、クイズには出る可能性があるんじゃないか。まあ、こんなことは植草ちぇんちぇーはとっくにご存知なのだろうけど。

３歳にガンつけられて

母親の交際相手を傷害容疑で逮捕　３歳児死亡
2016年1月27日14時25分

　東京都大田区大森南３丁目のマンションで３歳男児が心肺停止状態で見つかり、死亡が確認された事件で、警視庁は２７日、男児の母親の交際相手で住所不定、指定暴力団住吉会系組員の永富直也容疑者（２０）を傷害容疑で逮捕し、発表した。「夕食中ににらみつけてきたので、頭にきて投げ飛ばした」と容疑を認めているという。
　大森署によると、永富容疑者は２５日午後、この部屋に住む新井礼人（あやと）ちゃんに殴る蹴るなどの暴行を数回加え、頭蓋（ずがい）内出血などのけがをさせた疑いがある。２７日朝の母親（２２）の通報で救急隊が駆けつけたところ、礼人ちゃんの顔やお尻などに複数のあざがあり、左耳から出血していたという。
　頭部への衝撃が死因になった可能性があるといい、署が暴行と死亡の関連について調べている。

「永富容疑者」の罪状が「傷害」から傷害致死または殺人に変わるのは時間の問題ということなのだろうか。メンチ切る*1というのは関西の言い方であり*2、事件の舞台は東京なので、ガンつけるという表現が相応しいのだろう。てめぇガンつけやがったなと堅気の人間を恫喝するのは三下やくざの常套手段なので、それ自体は驚くべきではないが、相手は３歳児だよ。３歳児にガンつけられて、「頭にきて投げ飛ばした」とは、サツの旦那方も怒る前に呆れてしまうのでは？　まあ、こういう感情のコントロールができず、切れたら怖いよという奴がそんなに珍しいものでもないというのも事実だろう。やくざとしてもあまり出世しないような感じがするけど。

　１歳の息子に火がついたたばこを押しつけてけがを負わせたとして、福岡県警は１５日、福岡市博多区住吉３丁目、風俗店従業員梶原拓磨容疑者（２２）を傷害の疑いで逮捕し、発表した。「ハイハイしたときにできた傷だと思います」と容疑を否認しているという。
　博多署によると、梶原容疑者は昨年１２月下旬ごろ、自宅で火のついたたばこを次男の右足のふくらはぎに押しつけ、約１０日間のやけどを負わせた疑いがある。
　梶原容疑者は妻（２４）と子ども２人の４人暮らし。次男は同月２９日午後１１時ごろ、自宅近くの歩道に長男（３）といたところを通行人が見つけ、署が保護した。署の説明では、次男には複数のやけどやあざがあったという。長男にけがはなかった。（田中翔人）

「永富容疑者」の場合は、トンデモであるにせよ、動機（理由）のようなものが表明されている。こちらの方は、何が面白くてこういうことをするのかというのが全くわからない。まあ、煙草の火を押し付けるというのは児童虐待の典型というかなりステレオタイプなイメージはあるのだが（例えばドラマ『ランナウェイ〜愛する君のために』とか）。同様に、３か月の乳飲み子にシャブを飲ませて殺してしまった熊本の男の話*3も酷ぇとは思うが、何よりも意味がわからない。

プーチンがレーニンを批判。

Putin’s assessment of Lenin’s role in Russian history during Monday’s meeting with pro-Kremlin activists in the southern city of Stavropol was markedly more negative than in the past. He denounced Lenin and his government for brutally executing Russia’s last tsar along with all his family and servants, killing thousands of priests and placing a time bomb under the Russian state by drawing administrative borders along ethnic lines.
As an example of Lenin’s destructive legacy, Putin pointed to Donbass, the industrial region in eastern Ukraine where a pro-Russia separatist rebellion flared up weeks after Russia’s March 2014 annexation of Crimea*1. More than 9,000 people have been killed in the conflict since April 2014, and clashes have continued despite a February 2015 peace deal.
He said Lenin’s government had whimsically drawn borders between parts of the USSR, placing Donbass under the Ukrainian jurisdiction in order to increase the percentage of proletariat in a move Putin called “delirious”.
Putin’s criticism of Lenin could be part of his attempts to justify Moscow’s policy in the Ukrainian crisis, but it also may reflect the Kremlin’s concern about possible separatist sentiments in some Russian provinces.
Putin was particularly critical of Lenin’s concept of a federative state with its entities having the right to secede, saying it has heavily contributed to the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union. He added that Lenin was wrong in a dispute with Joseph Stalin, who advocated a unitary state model. Putin has in the past denounced Stalin for the purges that killed millions, but noted his role in defeating the Nazis in the second world war.
In Monday’s comments, Putin also criticised the Bolsheviks for making Russia suffer defeat at the hands of Germany in the first world war and ceding large chunks of territory just months before it lost. “We lost to the losing party, a unique case in history,” Putin said.

プーチンの発言は、ウクライナ問題*3に対する露西亜の立場の正当化という文脈でなされたもの。だから、特にレーニンの「連邦国家」構想が批判の対象になっていること、レーニンに反対して「単一国家（unitary state）」を主張したスターリンに対して好意的であることが注目される。プーチンは、中国に連邦制度を導入することを断固として拒否した毛沢東を賞賛するのだろうか。さらに、レーニンというか（ボルシェヴィキによる）露西亜皇室の虐殺や正教会への迫害も批判していることが注目される。

「あの日」って？

多分みんな吃驚の『朝日新聞』の記事；

小保方氏、手記出版へ　「混入犯に仕立て上げられた」

　ＳＴＡＰ細胞論文の研究不正問題をめぐり、論文を書いた小保方晴子・元理化学研究所研究員（３２）が手記を出版することが２６日、わかった。小保方氏がまとまった主張を公表するのは、２０１４年４月の会見以降初めて。
　タイトルは「あの日」で、全２５３ページ。講談社から出版され、早ければ２８日に書店に並ぶ。１４年１月に論文を発表後、不正の疑惑が浮上して論文の撤回に至る詳細などを当事者の視点でつづっている。
　小保方氏は手記の冒頭で「世間を大きくお騒がせしたことを心よりおわび申し上げます」とした上で、幼少期から米ハーバード大留学などを経て、理研の研究員となって論文を発表するまでの経緯を説明している。

これ以外の情報も綜合すると、あくまでもSTAP細胞騒動*1についての「手記」であって、「博士論文」問題への言及はないということになるのか。

この出版プロジェクトは、版元の講談社でも「極秘」扱いだった。
曰く、

出版する講談社はウェブ上で手記の冒頭部分を公開した。「出版に関しては情報管理が社内でも徹底していた。新刊の出版予定表にもなかった」と講談社関係者がBuzzFeed Newsに語った。「直接の関係者以外は誰も知らず、ほとんどの社員は(27日朝刊の)朝日新聞の報道で知ったのではないか」。

茂木健一郎氏*3の証言；

先日、講談社の西川浩史さん（別名、「ラーメン大好き小池さん」）が、近くに寄ってきて、ぼそぼそっと、「茂木さん、社内のある人が、どんな本か内容は言えないんんだけど、ゲラの段階で、茂木さんに読んでいただいて、ご意見をうかがいたい、と言ってまして」と言うから、「どんな本なんですか？」と聞いたら、「それが、全くわからないんですよ。」という返事だった。
「読んでもいいですよ」と返事しておいたのだけど、その後、講談社のその筋から連絡がなかったので（ひょっとしたら、メールとかを読み落としている可能性もあるが）、まあ、必要ないということになったのだろう、と思っていた。
そしたら、今朝の朝日新聞に、小保方晴子さんが講談社から手記を出す、しかも、明日には書店に並ぶ、というニュースが出ている。
ネットを見ても、これは、朝日新聞のスクープらしい。
それで、ああ、これだったんだ！　と思った。

叱られるヤフー

ヤフオクで大量の象牙が売買されていたとして、ヤフー・ジャパンが批判の対象となっている。因みに、グーグルやアマゾンは象牙の取引を禁止している。

Activist network Avaaz *1 has launched a petition calling for an end to Yahoo’s “bloody secret” of permitting sales of ivory. The petition, which has more than 1m signatures, urges Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer and Yahoo Japan head Manabu Miyasaka to “urgently stop all ivory sales from sites/platforms in Japan and all other markets”.
It’s estimated that more than 12 tonnes of elephant tusks and fashioned pieces of ivory were sold on the Yahoo Japan auctions site between 2012 and 2014.
Yahoo Japan is a joint venture between Yahoo and SoftBank, a Japanese telecommunications company.
There are several thousand pieces of ivory for sale on the auction site at any one time. On Tuesday, prices ranged from $20 for a trinket to $60,000 for a five-tiered pagoda carved in ivory. Traffic, an anti-wildlife trafficking group, said in a report last year that most ivory products in Japan are sold as hanko – personal seals that are signifiers of status in the country.

“It’s truly unfortunate and there are indications this trade is fueling poaching of elephants and the illegal trade of ivory into Japan and on to places such as China, aided by corruption in the registration system,” said Adam Peyman, wildlife program manger at Humane Society International*2.
“Yahoo needs to put more pressure on Yahoo Japan but we don’t have high hopes. With other countries putting more regulations on to ivory, they will probably do even better than before because of the increased business opportunity.”
A Yahoo spokeswoman said: “At Yahoo, we understand the concerns raised by this campaign and we in no way condone the sale of products made with ivory obtained from any animal at risk of extinction.
“Yahoo does not accept ads for ivory under our existing policies. Yahoo is an investor in Yahoo Japan and does not have controlling ownership.”

The international trade of elephant ivory has been banned since 1989 under the United Nation’s CITES treaty. However, Japan and China were allowed to legally import 102 tonnes of ivory from African nations in 2007. A report last year by the Environmental Investigations Agency found that a large majority of Japanese ivory traders were involved in illegal tusk registration activity*3.
The ivory trade has been blamed for stoking an ongoing poaching crisis in Africa. Data released in June showed an alarming 60% drop in elephant numbers in Tanzania between 2009 and 2014*4. Across Africa, an estimated 35,000 elephants are being slaughtered every year for ivory, amid concerns a fifth of all African elephants will be lost over the coming decade*5 .

フランシス・フォード・コッポラの『ゴッドファーザー』（Part IとPart II）において、裏切り者サル・テッシオ役を演じたエイブ・ヴィゴダ*1が26日、ニュー・ジャージー州の自宅で睡眠中に息を引き取った。享年94歳。ところで、『ゴッドファーザー』以上に彼の名を高めたとされるTVの『バーニー・ミラー』とその続篇『フィッシュ』は知らないのだった。また、彼は34年前の1982年に一度死んでいた（というかメディアによって誤って死人扱いされた）のだった；

Vigoda died about 34 years after People magazine started the rumor that the actor was dead. In 1982, People magazine wrote that “the late” Abe Vigoda did not attend the Barney Miller wrap party, spawning years of reports that Vigoda was no longer alive.
He played up the mistake by posing for a photograph published in Variety in which he was sitting up in a coffin and holding a copy of People. A website dedicated to tracking the actor’s status was updated on 26 January to reflect Vigoda’s death*2.
