８月10日午後、カナダ警察はオンタリオ州ストラスロイ*1で、乗り込んだタクシーの車内で爆発物を破裂させたAaron Driverという24歳の男を射殺した。カナダの警察当局が米国のFBIから得た情報によれば、Aaron Driverは大規模テロ決行の「最終段階」にあり、「72時間以内」にテロを行う危険があったという。2014年にオタワの連邦議会議事堂が銃撃される事件が起きたが*2、Aaron Driverは『トロント・スター』のインタヴューに応え、議事堂銃撃を支持しISISへの忠誠を誓う発言をした*3。それ以来、警察の監視対象となり、2015年にはテロ組織参加の廉で逮捕され、保釈後は電子的な監視下に置かれていた*4。2014年の記事を読むと、Aaron Driverはイングランド系のキリスト教徒の軍人の子どもとして生まれ育ち、17歳のときにイスラームに改宗している。
