X-File star Gillian Anderson pregnant

Gillian Anderson is pregnant - just months after splitting from her husband. The 'X-Files' actress has told friends she is expecting following her break-up from documentary maker Julian Ozanne, her second husband, according to Mail On Sunday newspaper.

Anderson split from Ozanne in April just 16 months after the pair tied the knot in a lavish ceremony held on the island of Lamu, situated off the coast of Kenya, in 2004.

The 37-year-old star - who already has an 11-year-old daughter, Piper, from her first marriage to Canadian television art director Clyde Klotz, which ended in 1996 - is now said to be dating wheel-clamping firm director Mark Griffiths.

Anderson is believed to have delayed telling close friends about the pregnancy until she reached the 12-week stage, the time at which risks of losing the baby become minimal.

Griffiths, 34, moved into the actress' ¡ê3million home in Holland Park, London, last month.

Anderson's spokesperson has so far refused to confirm the pregnancy and it is not yet known who the father is.

The X-Files is a rare example in television of a man and a woman who work together, between whom the problems that arise are strictly professional and have nothing to do with their gender or sexuality.

The Mulder character was supposedly born in 1960, and Sculley in 1964. They represent a generational sensibility of distrust, disappointment and disillusion with the great promise of America's manifest destiny, to bold go where no industrial democracy had gone before. Children of Watergate and Vietnam, they are attuned more to America's latent destiny, where a once powerful nation gets caught up in the complexity of its own instruments of power, which work increasingly at cross purposes, and perhaps contrary to the interests of the people they were designed to protect and serve.
