今年は「ピーター・ラビット」*1 の生みの親であるベアトリックス・ポッター生誕150周年。それを記念して、英国ではピーターをフィーチャーした50ペンス硬貨が今年後半に発行される。児童文学のキャラクターが英国のコインに登場するのはこれが初めて。これがあれば、ピーターもマクレガーさんの畑で怖い思いをしなくて済んだかも知れない。

ベアトリックス・ポッターについていえば、２年前に、猫を主人公にしたThe Tale of Kitty-in-Bootsという未完成・未発表の作品が発見されて、今年の９月に上梓されることなった。今年の１月に出版が発表された途端、予約が殺到して、amazon.co.ukでは発行前にベストセラーにランク・インしてしまった；
