中国国家林業局は今年２月に１年間の象牙製品輸入の禁止を宣言したが*1、５月29日に、中国国内の象牙加工業と象牙取引を段階的に消滅させていくことを明言した。
また、動物保護団体WildAid*2が2014年11月に中国の北京、上海、広州の住民に対して行った意見調査によれば、95％の人たちが象牙取引の禁止を支持している*3。
