最近Instagramで、陰毛が写った写真が検閲・削除されるということが起こっている。あからさまなヌード写真ではなく、水着や下着の脇からちょこっとはみ出した程度の写真が*2。また、倫敦のMall Gallery*3では、Leena McCallという画家*4の”Portrait of Ms Ruby May, Standing”という油絵*5が陰毛を描いているということで、撤去されている*6。さらに、Jessica ValentiさんはTVにおける検閲の例にも言及している*7。
その一方で、陰毛は復活しつつある。アメリカン・アパレル*8は陰毛付きのマネキンを登場させた*9。『ガーディアン』でEmer O'Tooleさんが2014年は「草藪の年（the year of bush）」だと呼んだように*10 、陰毛を含む女性の体毛を嫌悪する「つるつる」指向*11は終わりを告げたかのようだ。ブラジリアン・ワックス*12業界も完全脱毛から部分的脱毛へと戦略を変更している*13。
日本人（ヘテロセクシュアルの男性）にとっては、篠山紀信／宮沢りえの『Santa Fe』*14以来、欲情の対象であったけれど、それは性器の露出が認められていないが故の*15、換喩的代替品ということでよろしいか。
