どこの国でも、滞在する外国人には査証の捺された旅券を常時携帯する義務はあるのだろう。しかし、長期滞在者であればあるほど、外出する度にパスポートを携帯するということはないんじゃないか。却って掏摸に遭う方がこわいとか。しかし、これからは「ランダム・チェック」も行なわれるらしいので、忘れずに携帯するようにしよう。
Police to carry out visa check

FOREIGNERS in Shanghai should carry their passports with them for random checks by police, according to the Exit-Entry Administration of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.
The bureau also warned students planning to study overseas to pay attention to their passports' period of validity. The warning follows numerous cases, including a university student surnamed Wang who applied for visa on May 12 to study in Australia in July. Officials found his passport would soon expire and Wang only just received his new passport in time to qualify for his course.
The service window opens 9am to 5pm at 1500 Minsheng Road in Pudong New Area from Monday to Saturday.
