13名を虐殺したバルセロナ暴走テロの直接の実行犯（ドライヴァー）Younes Abouyaaqoubはその同志たちが警察に殲滅されたり逮捕されたりしたにも拘らず、行方が知れなかったが*2、現地時間８月21日、バルセロナの西方30マイルにあるSubiratsという町*3にて警官隊に射殺された。なお、そのとき「自爆ヴェスト」らしきものを着用していたが、射殺後に警察側が調べたところ、実は「爆弾」が含まれていない「フェイク自爆ヴェスト」だったという。
Younes Abouyaaqoubが射殺されたことで、事件の第１章は閉じられ、次の章へ。
