中沢新一からローリー・アンダーソンを通ってベンヤミンとパウル・クレーへ

イコノソフィアは死と解体ではなく、未来にかかわる叡智のスタイルにほかなりません。ローリー・アンダーソンが歌っています。
　「歴史ってなに？／歴史は天使だ。天使は過去をふりかえるたびに悲しくて、残骸を補修するために、歴史にむかうんだ。でも、天使の羽のつくりだす風があんまり強いんで、そのために、ぼくらは未来に吹きとばされていくのさ」／ってね。

と引用されている。この本は手許にないのだが、ローリー・アンダーソンの”Gravity’s Angel”の歌詞は、

ということで、”Gravity’s Angel”の歌詞には中沢氏が引用した箇所はないのだが、というよりも、これはヴァルター・ベンヤミンの「歴史の概念について」（or「歴史哲学テーゼ」）の中のパウル・クレーの「新しい天使」という絵を踏まえたパッセージ（IX）の内容だろう。ベンヤミン曰く、

（前略）天使は、かれが凝視している何ものから、いまにも遠ざかろうとしているところのように見える。かれの眼は大きく見ひらかれていて、口はひらき、翼は拡げられている。歴史の天使はこのような様子であるに違いない。かれは顔を過去に向けている。ぼくらであれば事件の連鎖を眺めるところに、かれはただカタストローフのみを見る。そのカタストローフは、やすみなく廃墟の上に廃墟を積みかさねて、それをかれの鼻っさきへつきつけてくるのだ。たぶんかれはそこに滞留して、死者たちを目覚めさせ、破壊されたものを寄せあつめて組みたてたいのだろうが、しかし楽園から吹いてくる強風がかれの翼にはらまれるどころか、その風のいきおいがはげしいので、かれはもう翼を閉じることができない。強風は天使を、かれが背中を向けている未来のほうへ、不可抗的に運んでゆく。その一方でかれの眼前の廃墟の山が、天に届くばかりに高くなる。ぼくらが進歩と呼ぶものは、〈この〉強風なのだ。（野村修訳。pp.335-336）
