どの記事もその代表作としてタイトルに掲げている『羊たちの沈黙』は（実は）未見なのだった（汗）。その『羊たちの沈黙』で有名な映画作家のジョナサン・デミ *1が現地時間４月26日に紐育にて食道癌のため他界。享年73歳。
いちばん最近観た彼の作品は『レイチェルの結婚』*2。最初に彼の名前を知ったのは、トーキング・ヘッズのドキュメンタリー『ストップ・メイキング・センス』*3。今回ちょっと吃驚したのは、ピーター・フォンダ主演の『怒りの山河』（原題はFighting Mad、すなわち『闘う気狂い』）という壮絶な映画をを監督していたこと。彼は後年において『フィラデルフィア』*4のような穏やかでリベラルな社会派映画を撮っているけど、それは『闘う気狂い』のどろどろとした絶望感に裏打ちされていたわけだ*5。
