Mondrianesque - Living, Loving, Thinking, Again

今年は1917年にピエト・モンドリアン *1やテオ・ファン・ドゥースブルフ *2によって雑誌De Stijl*3が創刊され、同名のアート（デザイン）運動が開始されてから100年目に当たる。和蘭のハーグ市では、それを記念して、市役所の建物をモンドリアン風にコスプレしている。まあ、モンドリアンはテオ・ファン・ドゥースブルフと微妙ではあるが決定的な対立をして、途中でDe Stiylを脱退してしまうのだが。

Mondrian, who shortened his name from “Mondriaan” in later years, is best known for his 1944 canvas Victory Boogie Woogie – considered to be one of the most important works of 20th-century art. The painting returned to the Netherlands in 1998 after it was bought from a private American collection for $40m. It now hangs in The Hague’s Gemeentemuseum, which houses about 300 other Mondrian works, making it the world’s largest collection.

記事では、De Stijlの後裔としてイヴ・サン＝ローランのデザインが言及されているけど、平面性ということでは（例えば）ミッフィー *4もその後裔といえるのだろう。
