新型コロナウィルス（COVID-19）が並の流行病と違うことのひとつは、多くの著名人の犠牲者を出しているということだろうか。勿論、そうした有名な死者の背後には、その数百倍或いは数千倍の無名の犠牲者がいるわけだけど。私の勝手な印象でしかないのだけど、著名人の中でもミュージシャンの犠牲者が特に目立っている感じがする。志村けん*1、アラン・メリル*2、マヌ・ディバンゴ*3、クシシュトフ・ペンデレツキ*4。こうした COVID-19に殺られたミュージシャンのリストがさらに増えることになった。ジャズ・トランぺッターのウォーラス・ロニー*5とフォーク・シンガーのジョン・プライン*6。ウォーラス・ロニーは私とほぼ同年代。生まれたのも数か月しか違わない。
