ファッション・デザイナーには、その作品（商品）の華やかさにも拘らず容姿も自らの服装も地味だという人が少なくない。しかし、ファッションやモードなんか全然興味ないよという人でも、カール・ラガーフェルドの白髪＋サングラス＋黒い皮手袋のイメージが目と脳に焼き付いているという人は少なくないのでは？
