グリーンランドでは７月末に大規模な野火が発生し、２週間経ってもまだ収まる気配がない。夏季のグリーンランドで野火は珍しいものではないということだが、今回の焼失面積は1200ヘクタールに達している。原因は相対的な高温と乾燥であるという*1。グリーンランドでは以前から地球温暖化に伴う氷の減少が指摘されているが*2、今回の野火もツンドラ層に相当のダメージを与えることが懸念されている*3。
