英インディペンデント紙が廃刊 部数低迷、電子版は続行ロンドン＝渡辺志帆
英国の日刊紙「インディペンデント」が廃刊されることになった。１２日、オーナー傘下のＥＳＩメディアが発表した。部数が低迷し、日曜版とともに３月下旬に約３０年の歴史に幕を閉じる。デジタル版の発行は続けられる。
発表によると、インディペンデント紙の最終発行は３月２６日、日曜版が同月２０日となる予定。また、ダイジェスト版ニュースを掲載する姉妹紙「ｉ（アイ）」は、英国の別のメディア企業ジョンストン・プレス社に２４００万ポンド（約４０億円）で売却されることになった。
インディペンデント紙は１９８６年創刊。保守、労働の２大政党から距離を置くリベラル紙として存 在感を示した。０４年に英国の高級紙として初めてタブロイド判に移行。斬新なレイアウトで知られ、昨秋、波打ち際に横たわるシリア難民の幼児の遺体写真を１面に掲載し、論議を呼んだ。（ロンドン＝渡辺志帆）

『インディペンデント』は日本では読売と提携していてDaily Yomiuriが『インディペンデント』の記事を独占的に転載していたことがあったけれど、今はどうなっているのだろうか。
