所謂「ゲームの理論」*1への貢献によってノーベル経済学賞を受賞した数学者のジョン・ナッシュ氏*2は、米国ニュー・ジャージー州で乗っていたタクシーがコントロールを失いガードレイルに衝突するという事故に巻き込まれて、死亡。享年86歳。同乗していた妻のアリシアさんも一緒に死亡。享年82歳。映画化もされたナッシュ氏の波瀾万丈な人生からすると、これはあまりにあっけない最期。ナッシュ氏はオスロでアーベル賞*3を諾威国王から授与され*4 、米国に帰国したばかりだった。
