米国ワシントン州Marysville市*1のmarysville-Pilchuck高校で、同校１年の男子生徒が発砲し、生徒１人を殺した後に自らを撃って自殺。
最初、『ガーディアン』の記事のタイトルの中のWashingtonという文字を見て、一瞬首都のワシントンかと思った。カナダのオタワでも銃撃事件があったばかりなので*2、カナダの次は米国の首都か！ と思ってしまったのだ。実際は、あのシアトルがあるワシントン州であるけど。この銃撃には（少なくとも現時点では）政治的・宗教的背景は見出されていない。
