既に2週間近く前になってしまったが、3月13日についてメモしておく。
その日、2時から上海国際文学節(Shanghai International Literary Festival 2011)*1の虹影(Hong Ying)とAdam Williamsのセッション”Chinese and Western literary Exchange: The Cultural Gap”を聴きにいく。そのときのメモから少し書き出しておく。Adam Williamsの発言――”Every writer needs EDITING.” また、”You must select from the detail in order to make it readable.”それから、作家の自己検閲の話になって、その前提としてのAdam Williamsの発言――”Every book you write is something strange.” 虹影の”Every author isn't fine(politically correct).” さらに、PCを根拠とする検閲の風潮の打撃は特に歴史小説の分野で著しい、云々。
会場で虹影の自伝、Daughter of the River: An Autobiography(Bloomsbury, 2010)とDeborah Fallows Dreaming in Chinese(Short Books, 2010)*2を買う。
