筆者のYONG Huangは米国ペンシルヴァニア州のKutztown Universityの哲学教授。
テクストの中から、ローティが自分はethnocentristだと主張したことを巡る件；
これはローティのいう「反語（irony）」であり、ローティにとっては（この意味で）ethnocentristであることとcosmopolitanであることは矛盾しない――”Moral progress is made by gradually expanding the circle who we prefer to refer to as “we” rather than “they.””
This claim, for Rorty, is not normative but descriptive: Whether you like or not, everyone is an ethnocentrist—we can make value judgment only according to standards that we accept.
To acknowledge this fact can help us realize the limitation of our own standards and therefore reweave our own standards.
