これも７月の新聞記事。伊太利のユベントスのセリエＢへの降格問題に引っかけて、中国サッカー界の腐敗を論じている。
Wang氏によれば、中国サッカーにおいて”match-fixing”というのは”an open secret”であるという。関係者がきちんと処分されるということもない。ただ１人、一方のティームから賄賂を受け取ったことを正直に告白して懲役10年を食らった審判がいるだけである。賄賂を受け取っているのは審判だけではなく、相手ティームから賄賂を受け取る選手もいる。
そこで、Wang氏は”Why is China’s soccer so dark? Why do sport authorities often tolerate match fixing?”と問う。
ある全国人民代表は、公金の濫用に繋がるとして、国有企業のサッカー倶楽部への投資の禁止を提案している。
Reasons are many, but a big one is that many state-owned companies have been “burning money” in soccer clubs in a way that would amaze most reasonable investors.
These state-owned companies buy a soccer club but not to make it run professionally and profitably.
In most cases, the buyer believes—though falsely—that naming a club after itself will greatly promote its brand awareness among the public.

The last thing such a buyer would care about is whether the club will make money. For the buyer, even if the club is in deficit, it’s a “necessary” investment that will be recouped from bigger sales of [eg.] wine or beverages the buyer company produces.
ただ、これが腐敗の最大の原因だというのはどうかなと思った。それ自体をビジネスとして考えず、宣伝効果として考えるというのは、つい最近まで日本のプロ野球もそうだったわけだが、様々な問題はあるにせよ、ここまでの腐敗は聞いていないからだ。
